Buying a punching bag and a pair of gloves – how much you should spend

Recently, I became interested in working out on my own. I do go to a studio where I practice mixed martial arts, but I often find it inconvenient due to my lack of spare time. With the busy lives we lead, it’s practically impossible to stay fit if you don’t get some workout at home or at least jog three or four times a week.

Since I personally enjoy boxing and martial arts, it was inevitable for me to start prospecting the market for a pair of gloves and a punching bag. Let me tell you that finding the right product is hard, and boy, do I mean it! On the one hand, you have to make sure that what you’ll be spending on the model is the right price, and on the other, you want to know that it’s made in such a way so that it lasts for a decent amount of time. I wasn’t going to spend over two hundred dollars on a heavy bag and then have the nasty surprise one day that it was broken.

12In my experience, there are two types of heavy bags you can buy nowadays. Either you go for one that hangs from the ceiling and there’s a high chance you won’t have to spend a lot of money it, or you choose the freestanding option and it will cost you a pretty penny. Century makes a lot of high-quality bags, some of which are freestanding, and the vast majority can be found to cost around two hundred dollars. Of course, it all depends on the money you have available for such an expense. I find two hundred dollars to be an off-putting price, particularly since a heavy hanging bag from Everlast could cost under one hundred dollars. So, in the end, it boils down to the installation method and what you’re comfortable with. Freestanding options might be excellent for people who really have no way of hanging anything on their ceiling or walls.

13Gloves are an entirely different part of the problem. Fighting gloves are different from the ones intended for training because they usually leave at least a part of the fingers open. Training models cover the entire hand, so I guess in this respect it depends on your skills and expertise. A nice pair of Everlast gloves can cost up to one hundred and fifty dollars and more. Again, I strongly advise you to save some money regularly and get a high-quality product instead of opting for a cheap one that definitely disappoints on all accounts.
